NEET UG 2024: Misery Outweighs Uproar

4th June, when whole India was eagerly awaiting for Election results; National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results of NEET UG 2024, 10 days earlier than previously declared. The results were mind boggling, the examinees were startled and logics were clueless. The entire event could have been a moment of celebrating success or preparing for better performance next time. But very soon it turned into uproars and protests, misery and heartbreak; blaming and political circus; amidst totally irresponsible behavior from the authorities.
Why the controversy?

This year, among the 24 lakh aspirants; 67 scored 720 out of 720, for the 1st time in history. Those who are aware of how difficult is this exam are bound to be surprised. But that’s only the first piece of the puzzles.

Two aspirants got 719 and 718, securing rank 68 and 69 respectively. But in a exam where every correct answer worths 4 and every wrong deducts 1, such a score is mathematically impossible.

16 students from Odisha, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh chose Godhra exam centre in Gujarat, more than 1000 kms far from their hometown and all of them secured spectacular AIR.

Many aspirants didn’t get any result and the cause was told to be damaged OMR sheet, an excuse of mismanagement for which, none of the students could be held responsible.

This year, registration of NEET UG was also mysteriously unclear, where months after the said day of registration closure, registration portal was reopened.

How’s it going?

Keeping the country wide protest of students, and political play in between in mind; Hon. Supreme Court of India has started sessions on this controversy. Till now, all the answers given by NTA has been insufficient to stop the uproar. The situation has worsened since some of the protesting students have been threatened by anonymous calls. Numerous questions have been raised pointing serious negligence of NTA in social media. But NTA’s arrogant illogical attitude only flared up more serious claims.

Political Scam?
Many Political parties have already blamed Central Government for this mismanagement. Some state governments including state govt of Tamil Nadu has suggested to replace NEET with previous state wise entrance exams.
Whatever be the cause, ultimately it’s just unwanted hazards and miseries for the aspirants who prepared tirelessly for the exam. Also it’s a question on the standard of a national exam that determines who’re going to be the next generation doctors.
