The condition of women in the twenty-first century is much better than that in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. During those times, women were mostly confined to the home. However, some women did try to focus on earning money back then. Despite various problems and obstacles they faced, some women began participating in various fields of work, such as politics and literature.
During and after the two world wars, the world experienced significant economic depression, which led to increased participation of women in the workforce. American women were likely among the first to do so. Eleanor Roosevelt is a remarkable woman who actively worked for political, ethical, and social justice.
In today’s era, women continue to face various family and social pressures in their lives. Upon entering married life, a woman’s responsibilities multiply significantly. Having a baby adds further challenges, making it even more demanding for her. Unfortunately, she often loses much of the independence she had before marriage, gradually leading her towards depression or misery. Despite these realities, she works not only to maintain her own identity and financial independence but also to support her family in coping with inflation and other challenges.
Today, many women are the only child of their parents, and a large percentage of the female population is highly educated. These factors contribute to the increasing employment of women. In cases where employment is not an obligation, women choose to work to break free from their monotonous indoor lives, earn income, and most importantly, enjoy freedom and individual identity.
In addition to sectors like education, law enforcement, engineering, factories, railways, aviation, healthcare, banking, beauty parlors, and tailoring, women are also employed in micro and small-scale industries. They engage in indoor work such as handicrafts, various art forms, printing and painting on clothes, cooking, and home food delivery, where a significant portion of the female workforce is active today. Sometimes, women are the primary workforce driving these sectors. Many women are emerging as entrepreneurs in businesses of various scales, creating job opportunities for others.
It is crucial to acknowledge women from low-income households and nomadic groups who work as suppliers in masonry and brick kiln industries.
