Many of us would remember a Doctor who went viral in social media during Covid pandemic 2020. A mid-thirty doctor with impressive voice, sang a song with his guitar that demolished all the false accusations held over these tireless covid soldiers. He was Dr Anirban Datta, MD Pathologist of Murshidabad Medical College. And the bitter truth is : He is no more.
What caused his death ? Facts first
Dr Anirban was a faculty of Murshidabad Medical College, recently staying in his in laws house with his second wife, Dr Archita Bandyopadhyay, in Berhampore. As per them, he was having acidity problems since 2 days. On 25th June, after coming home from duty, he vomited several times. His wife gave antiemetics and saline for his aid. At night he told he was feeling uncomfortable in bed and laid down on the floor instead. In the morning, his wife went to check on him and to her utter shock found no sign of life in him. He was immediately taken to nearby Nursing Home and was declared “brought dead” by the attending clinician.
Where is the glitch then?
Well, wouldn’t you get surprised to know that death certificate of a Medical College faculty is being issued by a local Homeopathy practitioner? Wouldn’t it add more to your surprise that the attending clinicians noted severe cyanosis in his face and upper part of body? We are bound to expect that atleast post mortem examination is a must. Afterall he was just 37, with no obvious sign of impending death to his closest people till the day of his demise. But no post mortem examination was conducted. Local promoters with political backup interfered and his cremation was done in such a hurry that most of his relatives and friends couldn’t reach to say farewell. Why in such an absurd way the things are going? Is there any uneasy truth that was necessary to be burned in the cremation fire?
Many theories, many conflicts
The life of Dr Anirban Datta is nothing less than a thriller movie. A young doctor with extraordinary talent, awesome musical and poetic skill. He came forward in every social movements, became a prominent face of West Bengal Doctor’s Forum. While at the same time, his family life has gone through severe up and downs. His late parents, his estranged marriage with his first wife Dr Sharmi Chattopadhyay, his affection for Asmik, his only son, all were part of his emotionally turbulent life. Sudden cardiac death, which has been stated as the cause of death in D.C., is very much associated with such stressful life. But still that doesn’t explain such horrifying cyanosis of his face. And moreover, such rush in cremation without much of his closest people certainly raises question.
What’s happening now
His first wife Sharmi has lodged a police complaint since her and Anirban’s son, Anirban’s only living heir Asmik couldn’t see his father for the last time. Doctors of WBDF have officially demanded to health ministry for a thorough investigation. On the other hand, his second wife and her family is adamant to their statement that his death was natural and there is no foulplay.
Is this death really a sinister foulplay or just a tragic natural one? Was his death necessary for his voice to stop or just the stressful life played the main villain? Only time will tell us.
