Understanding Saturn Retrograde

From an astronomical standpoint, Saturn retrograde occurs when Saturn appears to move backward in its orbit from the perspective of Earth. This optical illusion happens because of the relative positions and speeds of Earth and Saturn as they orbit the Sun. Remember it is an optical illusion. Saturn is not moving in reverse for real. Every planet including the Earth only move in one direction.  Every year by the End of June till November Saturn retrograde occurs and it lasts about 140 days.

Astrological Significance

In Vedic astrology, Saturn is often referred to as the “taskmaster” or the “lord of karma.” It governs areas such as discipline, responsibility, limitations, and long-term goals.

In Kalpurusha Kunduli it controls the Signs Capricorn and Aquarius. In all of our birth charts it controls the 10th and 11th houses of Karma (action) and Karma-phala (result). When Saturn goes retrograde, its energy turns inward. This period prompts a deep internal review of these areas, urging us to reconsider and reassess our commitments, structures, and boundaries.
